So I saw @1917 at a screening last week. My #instareview is that it’s an amazing accomplishment both creatively (acting) and technically. It’s not really a 1 take movie but it’s close. They “break it up” at key moments. It’s a film for those who are fascinated with what’s probably (disputable) humanity’s worst war. The war that began when “gentle” men were still fighting chivalrous like, but ended with the invention—and the ensuing carnage—of the machine gun, barbed wire, airplanes, tanks, poison gas, but ZERO ANTIBIOTICS. Almost a week later it stays with me, haunts me, as a reminder of humanity’s dark calling, if we choose to follow that call. It’s a call we are currently being seduced to heed. And watching a film like can, hopefully, remind us all of where this road leads. I’m not so certain we are up to the task. And frankly, it’s time to #letwomenlead
